Tooth colored fillings in Minneola, FL
A tooth colored filling replaces decayed or broken tooth structure with resin that matches your tooth shade. At Neola Dental in Minneola, Dr. Josaida Contreras places composite fillings for cavities and small breaks. An exam and x-rays come first, and she tells you whether a filling is enough or the tooth needs more.

What is a tooth colored filling?
A tooth colored filling, also called a composite filling, is made of resin that the dentist shades to match your tooth. After the decay is cleaned out, the resin goes into the space in layers and is hardened with a light. It bonds to the tooth, so the dentist can often keep more of the healthy tooth around the repair.
The finished filling blends in when you smile, which matters most on front teeth and the teeth you show when you laugh. The same material is used for dental bonding, which repairs a chip when there is no decay.
When do you need a filling?
A filling is the usual answer to a cavity, a small break, or an old filling that cracked, leaks or fell out. Signs include sensitivity to sweets, cold or heat, a rough spot your tongue keeps finding, and food that keeps packing into the same place.
Many cavities cause no symptoms at first. That is why a regular dental exam with x-rays matters. If a filling fell out, call us, and read what to do in the meantime in our article on a filling that fell out.
Not sure it is a cavity? Start with an exam
A dark spot is not always decay, and a cavity is not always dark. Stains in the grooves of a tooth can be harmless, while decay between two teeth shows up only on an x-ray. We look, we take images when they are needed, and we show you what we see before we suggest anything. If the tooth only needs watching, we say that too. If you have a chip and no decay, the better answer may be dental bonding.
What happens during a filling visit?
- The dentist numbs the area with local anesthesia.
- Decay and weak tooth structure are removed, and the space is cleaned.
- The resin goes in layer by layer, each layer hardened with a curing light.
- The dentist shapes the filling, checks your bite and polishes it.
Ask when it is safe to eat. The numbness fades after the visit, and the dentist gives you instructions for your case.
How long do fillings last, and when is a crown better?
We will not promise a number of years. A filling lasts as long as the tooth around it stays sound and your bite stays kind to it. Our article on how long fillings last covers that in detail. When a lot of tooth is missing or cracked, the dentist may talk with you about a dental crown instead. See cracked teeth.
What does a tooth colored filling cost?
The cost depends on the size of the cavity, the tooth and how many teeth need work, so we give a price after the evaluation. Our membership plans and payment options pages explain how to plan for it. We accept most PPO plans and most Medicare Advantage plans that include dental coverage, so call us to confirm yours. For more, read about the cost of tooth colored fillings in Minneola.

Frequently asked questions about tooth colored fillings in Minneola, FL
Does getting a filling hurt?
The area is numbed first, so most patients feel pressure but not pain. Tell us if anything feels sharp and we stop to numb you more.
When can I eat after a filling?
Wait until the numbness is gone so you do not bite your cheek or tongue. The dentist will tell you what to avoid for your case.
Why does my bite feel high or my tooth feel sensitive after a filling?
Mild sensitivity can happen for a short time. If your bite feels off or the sensitivity does not settle, call us. A quick adjustment often fixes a high spot.
